Canon U.S.A., in collaboration with Colortrac (Chantilly, VA), has released the Canon Colortrac SC 42c Xpress Scanner for large-format printing, which is designed to provide "high-quality color scanning and inexpensive color and monochrome wide-format technology." Canon's existing series of multi-function, scan-to-copy/file printer solutions gains a 42-inch standalone option with this scanner. The SC 42c has characteristics that will help users in a wide range of industries, including architecture, federal government agencies, and manufacturing. The new scanner scans at up to 200 dpi at speeds of up to 6 inches per second in 24-bit color and up to 13 inches per second in monochrome. It can also scan papers with a width of up to 42 inches. SmartWorks Touch Software (which allows users to scan, copy, print, or scan to email with full image preview and editing control) and Colortrac's SingleSensor Technology (which combines CIS imaging technology and LEDs in a single line for maximum scan accuracy and optimal illumination) are also included as standard features.

Customers can benefit from these capabilities by having a single-screen interface that easily groups all controls and scanner information in one place. The SC 42c can scan a wide range of documents, including technical and historical documents, thanks to powerful document enhancement. While tangible copies of historic documents and maps decay over time, scanning them into a digital version preserves them. The digital document can then be upgraded to remove artifacts and clarify photos, making these antique documents easier to read and handle without putting the original at risk of further deterioration. “Canon continues to enhance its large-format capabilities to particularly suit current customer demands – the Colortrac SC 42C Xpress Scanner is a good example,” said Fred Pagani, Global Scanning Americas. “We're excited to collaborate with Canon to bring this solution to the market in the hopes of assisting companies in supporting their consumers as they navigate the new normal.” The scanner can be coupled with certain suitable devices to create a multifunction printer (MFP) system for customers who already own a Canon image Prograf large-format printer. The SC 42c Xpress can produce output up to 42 inches wide without sacrificing speed or quality for consumers that need more than 36-inch scans.
